Vale of Health Pond

This delightful, small pond lies in a fold in the upper Heath, a short stroll from East Heath Road, NW3. There are only four swims (if that) owing to the colonising of collapsed willows along the footpath side. The pond is triangular in shape and one side is residential.

Some huge carp lurk in this heavily overgrown pond, as well as the usual species. Specimen hunters often claim the few swims, armed with kit that’s capable of dealing with big fish in a limited space and use multiple rods, to increase the chances of a take.

Sadly, recent anti-social behaviour has meant that night fishing is not allowed. This is a stark reminder that rowdy behaviour can and does risk losing fishing access on the Heath (as well as littering, especially discarding line/hooks, which are dangerous to birdlife).
